What Hongyuan guava candy is

Each piece sits in its own crimped green wrapper printed with the brand's two characters, 宏源. The importer's label puts the bag at 12.3 oz (349 g). Sugar and glucose syrup make the body of the candy. Guava essence, citric acid and a pinch of salt set the taste, and FD&C Blue 1 with Yellow 5 give it the green.

Bags on sale now carry one of two prints under the big red characters: 夹心糖 or 果味糖. Both are Classic Series guava candy.

Know before you buy

Guava divides a room. Buyers who dislike it call the smell musky and say it stays on the breath. It is also a small, round hard candy: the American Academy of Pediatrics keeps hard candy away from children under four, and dentists warn that biting one can chip a tooth.

    Great candies

Our local Japanese restaurant has these as free after dinner treats. Looked all over for them and finally found them here. These are the exact ones they serve and are delicious.

    Fave

Best little sized, hard candy. The same kind you get at an Asian buffet. Love the flavor, not tart, not too sweet. Just right and it's, again, little, so perfect for quick little treat and breath cleanse. Not suitable for kids in my opinion, could cause choking. Great value for you back for sure. The bag is much bigger than I expected and so many candies inside

    Id buy again

4/5 because your breath is going to smell and your mouths gonna taste, *interesting*. Taste is good to me though, but not a commonly enjoyed taste. "Armpit" taste is what most people say the taste of it is. They are not exactly wrong but its more of a tropical and kiwi musk taste instead of armpit lol lasts long and has a slight refreshing feel to it.

    Yummy!

It takes like tasting a bite out of a fresh guava. Yummy!!!! Great value to find a bag this big at a fair price. We have trouble finding this candy in stores so thrilled to find it on Amazon.

Guava or lychee: which Hongyuan candy should I pick?

Take guava if you want the restaurant candy itself: bold, musky and tart at the end. Take lychee if you like floral, perfumed fruit and a gentler scent. Guava costs less per bag: $4.59 against $7.49.
